Is coffee good for you? Bad for you? Completely ambivalent? It can be tricky to figure out, especially because of the drink’s inherent complexity (there are over 1000 chemical compounds in coffee). Not to mention, there are plenty of other factors at play such as acidity and how coffee is grown and stored. Scientists and researchers constantly study the bean, trying to crack the code within to discern its health benefits and potential drawbacks.
Lately, however, the news has been increasingly positive. For whatever reason, the public is fascinated by these studies and many of them get national and international coverage. The advantages of drinking coffee seem to outweigh the potential ill effects, giving us all yet another reason to enjoy everyone’s favorite beverage.
So what are some of the health benefits of coffee? For starters, coffee is full of antioxidants, compounds that can inhibit or halt cell damage. Some of the major healthy antioxidants found in coffee include caffeine (obviously), chlorogenic acid, cafestol, and melanoidins, all of which provide coffee with its notable anti-inflammatory properties.
In addition to these anti-inflammatory qualities, researchers have been studying how coffee can help reduce the risk of an astonishing range of diseases. Some research has highlighted how coffee consumption may be associated with lessening the risks of certain cancers as well as type-2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. It has even been suggested that drinking coffee can lower the risk of early death.

But what about cold brew? Does drinking your coffee cold, canned, and nitrogenated, offer the same benefits? The evidence points to yes. Not only does cold-brewed coffee offer the same favorable health outcomes as regular coffee, but as an added bonus, studies have shown that the combination of nitrogen infusing and cold brewing coffee can actually enhance the aroma and flavor of the final cup.
Furthermore cold brew, due to the longer brewing process, contains more caffeine. Caffeine is a compound that, aside from keeping you awake long enough to watch Last Week Tonight every Sunday, can also sharpen your mental faculties as well as help you lose weight. At extreme levels, caffeine can of course be dangerous, but when consumed as part of a healthy diet it has shown itself to be a very helpful little stimulant.
